From as far back as I can remember I have been finding ways to create art from discarded materials. As a child I would make my brother and I halloween costumes from discarded boxes and found objects.
Today I create wearable art from reclaimed leather such as belts, bags and clothing. Interesting items I find in my daily travels are also incorporated into my designs. All my cuffs are made from 100% recycled leather from old belts, bags, briefcases and anything else I can find made from leather.
Fisticuffs are hand-made one at a time⦠No two are exactly alike. Each one is unique based on the materials used in their construction. I'm always looking for new materials and things to cut up and re-purpose into my cuffs. Once I find a nice bag or belt to use I carefully disassemble the various pieces and measure out what it is I want to build.
After that I punch holes and cut various pieces by eye. I'm pretty choosy about the leather I use now and only buy well worn items or things with an interesting texture. Some pieces get dye treatments and rubs, others are embellished with rivets or washers I've plucked from the intersection of a busy street.
Fisticuffs are available through several distributors, and expect them to pop up at more stores in the future throughout the country. Check out the "Where to Buy Them" page for a complete list.
